As part of the major fundraising campaign for Maala, we organized a women’s event to inspire and engage them in supporting the building project. We kicked off the initiative with mini breakfast events in women’s homes, where we explained the project and handed out invitations encouraging them to bring two friends to a unique "Portuguese Auction." This intriguing concept, which we coined, was designed to pique curiosity and put a twist on the traditional Chinese auction. Instead of purchasing tickets for prizes, participants made commitments to raise funds or volunteer at the call center in exchange for winning prizes.
The main event was highly emotional and impactful. We shared the story of a child who had struggled and found help through Maala, illustrated by a sand artist, and culminated in a surprise appearance by the child and his mother. The audience was deeply moved. We also showcased a video we produced and set up a display of the various prizes, along with sign-up tables for the fundraising commitments. This event served as a powerful springboard for the campaign, which ultimately raised over $1 million!
